The number of account freezing applications has been increasing year on year and, with that, law enforcement’s resources are becoming further stretched. An ever-increasing number of applications are suffering from fatal errors in procedure.

Law enforcement can be quick to seek account freezing orders under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (“POCA”). They are designed to preserve the balance of an account while the origin and intended use of the funds are investigated.
